Week 1

Hi everyone

My name is Elizabeth and I'm currently  a stay at home mum with two kids. I studied environmental science but because of family reasons I decided to change to a teaching career.

This is my first blog and I'm still in the learning process. My first week's experience was a mixture of both confusion and at times understanding. I managed to go through the Edutopia video, 'How the Brain works best'. I noted that there is an interconnection between neuroscience and learning. Any learning process involves the brain. However not all learning experiences are equal in causing lasting and meaningful brain change. Dr Jude Willis indicated there are many factors which can hinder learning for example stress affects how someone learns. Some of the causes of stress in a classroom set up include fear of being wrong and frustration with difficult matters. I realised that in my first week, various lecturers introduced the GDLT class to different courses and they also outlined the requirements for different assessment activities. Stress was building up as I was trying to understand various concepts. As I was reading other student's blogs I also noted that not all learning experiences are equal. They vary from one person to another. As a result I appreciate the ICTs course because technology can be used to enhance learning.

I'm looking forward to learning more.
